Welcome to The BizOnline Newsletter. You'll find the latest class schedules and upcoming casting calls. I am looking forward to working with you on your acting goals!

Only a few spaces left. All night time classes are for adults.
Teens need to be at least 16 years old and with parent's permission to attend.

SATURDAY TEEN ACTING CLASS - MARCH 24 & 31, APRIL 14, 21, & 28

Classes are appropriate for beginners and advanced students.
We work with each student on their own skill level.

Returning campers get new scripts each camp.

Develop and refine your inner Thespian in a friendly, relaxed setting as you learn from veteran stage and film actress, Mona Lee Fultz atBriteLites Studio. This basics class provides a foundation for developing a natural, believable style of acting for film. Believing every person is unique, Mona encourages actors to be true to their own "style" by assigning roles based on an individual's natural qualities and skill level.
Participants work on four to five different scenes and monologues from plays and screenplays.
In addition to working with text, Mona uses special exercises to help actors relax and make their characters come alive. Students become more confident as they tackle and master more complex characters through scene work.

TUESDAY NIGHTS - JANUARY 17 & 24th
To qualify for this class you must either be extremely busy and
unable to do homework like learning lines and meeting with a
partner outside of class OR, be very lazy and the kind of person
who waits until the last minute to do their work. In other words,
a work-a-phobe. BUT, hey, ya don't wanna slack completely because
it's Murphy's Law that just when you have reached your rustiest a
great audition hits your in-box. So purrfect. Slacker Class
evaporates guilt and gives career insurance.
Auditioning is different from acting. It requires special skills
and the ability to compete under stress in compressed time.
Students simulate audition scenarios by role-playing casting
directors, agents, directors, readers, and auditioning actors.
Each session actors are given new scripts to cold read. While
sharpening skills, actors learn how to compete with vitality,
create a personal win at every audition, stand out at auditions,
sell themselves, and win callbacks and bookings while still
managing to be lazy. Absolutely no homework!

Within us is not just one personality but a whole crowd.
In this class actors learn to isolate and identify their
personalities and draw upon them when they perform. They
explore Jungian archetypes and study the Enneagram, an
ancient psychological system based on nine personality types,
then apply the types by acting out monologues from their point
of view. Excellent class for actors to learn more about themselves
and stretch their acting range.
7 sessions, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Or until done. $225

Martha has been living on the fringe of reality for 25 years, and unsuspecting Cindy finds herself caught in Martha’s devilish plot to fill a hole in her life.

Characters:
Martha is 45-60 years old. She is of average height and build with wispy hair and a sullen dispostion. She has been living by herself since the mid 1980’s after her son, Frankie, died. She was a single mother, and after her son’s death, she was never able to recover emotionally from the loss. She began drinking heavily and soon found out that she was no longer able to have children because of a medical complication. Several years later, she lost her job as a nurse due to her drinking and mental condition. She tried adopting a child, but because of her mental illness, she was denied after several attempts. Martha has detached herself from reality and will go to any lengths to live her fantasy of having a child again.

Cindy: Cindy is between the ages 28 and 35 and pregnant with her 3rd child. She is also of average height and build. Cindy and her husband, Daniel, live a low to middle class lifestyle with two children. Daniel lost his job recently, so he is currently feverishly looking for work while Cindy is left to look after the children on her own. She is somewhat naïve, trusting and gives people the benefit of the doubt, but she is also strong willed with a logical, rational sense capable of quick problem solving decisions. She is a very caring mother and will do anything to protect her children.

BREAKDOWN:
Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre
festival. However, the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks
away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try to create something
new with the help of their friends Susan and Heidi. Eventually, Jeff
suggests they write about what to write about. [title of show], taken from
the space on the festival's application form which asks for the [title of
show], follows Hunter and Jeff and their friends on their journey through
the gauntlet of creative self-expression, learning lessons about
themselves as people, friends and artists. [title of show] is, above all, a
love letter to the musical theatre and the joy of collaboration.

Jeff - A composer/lyricist. New Yorker. Loves all things Broadway.
Joyful and Dreamy. Funny, quick, and smart. Mid-20s to 40. Should
have vocal range up to B (above middle C)

Hunter - A book writer. New Yorker. Mid-20s to 40. Goofy and
joyful. Excited to try something new, but insecure. Should have
vocal range up to B (above middle C)

Susan - Their actor friend. New Yorker. Mid-20s to 40. Office
Manager by day, venturing in and out of the theatre world.
Downtown edge. Smart-ass sensibility. Street sense with a dash of
hopefulness. Vocal range to include F (below middle C) to high G.
Heidi - Their actor friend. New Yorker. Mid-20s to 40. Has
performed on Broadway. Confident. Sarcastic, but has a warm
heart. Vocal range to include F (below middle C) to high G.

2011 Annual Unified Auditions, a service of Austin Creative Alliance, will be held at Salvage Vanguard Theater on Saturday, September 17th from 9am to 4pm. This is a great opportunity for actors to be seen by directors, producers, and leaders of both theatre and film groups from around central Texas. All applicants must meet at least ONE of the following criteria:

-Be a member of AEA or AEA eligible
-Have accumulated the equivalent of one year's acting training
-Have performed in at least two non school, public stage productions (university/college productions excepted)

What to prepare before the auditions:
-One 1-minute monologue that best represents your acting ability AND/OR...

-16 bars or approximately 30 seconds of music (must provide sheet music in your key) No pre-recorded music or a capella songs.

(Music and/or Music and Monologue auditions will take place in the afternoon, Monologue-only auditions in the morning)

-50 standard 8"x10" headshots and resumes, (resumes must be affixed to headshots) mailed or delivered to the ACA offices. The official deadline on headshot/resume acceptance is September 2nd, 2011. Participants work on four to five different scenes and monologues from plays

SCROLL DOWN FOR CLASSES AND AUDITIONS

Dear Acting Buddy,

Now that the heat has driven me inside into the AC, I've been flipping back and forth between my favorite subjects; Acting, Gardening, Spirit, and Quantum Physics made popular by movies like, The Matrix, The Secret, The Butterfly Effect and Inception. I'm finding a lot of correlation between these areas of interest.

Active Imagination -- we actors know how to do that!
The principles of modern physics gives us new tools that we can apply to anything we want to accomplish and supports the notion that we can create our own realities and thus open the doors to infinite possibilities of self-expression. It taps a source of immense power limited only by our imaginations. Imagination! That's good news because Imagination is in abundance in all the creative types I know and work with.

Active imagination has always been taught by the great acting teachers. The father of modern acting, Stanislavsky, taught actors to vividly imagine the circumstances of the character with all senses, and when actors do this with intense focus they enter into a deepened trance state of the character. The actor then naturally behaves as the character rather than "showing" or "sign-boarding" or "pushing". Many effective acting choices like sense memory utilize active imagination. In a class with Eric Morris he demonstrated sense memory to bring to life the character of a Russian soldier on guard duty in the cold. Eric focused on the cold and in about five minutes he had goose bumps, turned a pale shade of blue, and was shivering all over. He was freezing! Eric has great mastery of sense memory. (His acting books are recommended.) How do we apply this sense-memory-super-power quantumly?

According to Quantum Reality the universe is not what we think it is. This material world "appears" to be real but it is a virtual reality. The quantum level of the universe "appears" to be no more than a sea of quantum energy, but it IS real. You're thinking "What the bleep?" But, Einstein said, "Everything is emptiness and form is condensed emptiness. If you were to look through a subatomic lens, the world would look like particles floating in empty space - a timeless reality."

In this material dimension we appear to live in a world of time and duality, physical vs. spirit, good vs. evil and so on but quantum thought maintains there is only Spirit a universe of Oneness, duality does not exist. If there is nothing physical than making instant change is possible.

How do we live the kind of creative lives we want here in Austin? Morphic Field and Timelines
We've been beating our heads up against that one. We sit around in Alliance meetings scratching our heads. Some few directors, writers, have been able to break through but the majority are still eeking out a living. The acting community here has built up its own morphic field and that is good but in order to advance we need to tap into the universal power of the morphic field which contains the blueprint we want.

Currently, Austin's Biz Morphic Field holds a condition of not enough work for everyone and we daily reinforce that condition by looping and emoting on it. It has created a somewhat non-miraculous, static belief system that dominates our lives in a not good way. But in a different time line Austin has lots of professional acting opportunities, studios and networks located here, numerous series, Movies of the Week, features, commercials, etc. This morphic field embodies an abundant, creative, successful community of theatre/film artisans.

By focusing on that more desirable timeline now we are in process of creating an altered state, a different reality, which we energize and give life via our active imaginations. So the secret is that our imagination, our creative imagination, is the force. Keep polishing the lamp until the Genie appears. But, don't put that rag down just yet. There might be some resistance/fear to work through.

Here is an Inelia Benz exercise that I've taken the liberty to adapt.

"If you fall back into doubt or negativity say "I'm stuck in my career." This statement will create a feeling an energy somewhere in your body or energy field.

Scan your body and find it. Now ask yourself the following: Did I put this program in my body? If yes, then why? Was it voluntary or under duress? If not, then who did?

You may or may not get answers. However, the important thing is that you found the program. Now, either remove it yourself and send it back to Source, or ask one of your guides or angels to remove it for you. Then fill the space left behind with light and love.

If you find resistance to removing the program, focus your attention on the resistance, it could be a backup program to ensure you don't get rid of the main program. For example: "I need more than this exercise to help myself or, "I can't find it". If you find these, or something similar, proceed as above, then go back to the main one.

It might take a few times, but it will eventually be eliminated and you will be free do what is needed to reach your full potential in this lifetime."

I did this exercise and found a slave collar around my neck. I guess my unconscious chose this symbol because it was Juneteenth.

Asking stimulating quantum questions of yourself is another way to create new "waves". I stuck my hand in a quantum window and asked is there something that I need right now? I felt something drop in my hand so I pulled it out of the window and it was a strawberry. I sat with it for awhile and I realized I needed more sweetness in my life. I installed it in my heart. Later that night at class, Jet gave me a card and flowers! I allowed myself to open to the sweetness around me.

Find the YOU that lives in the time line that has a successful fulfilling career and go have a visit with yourself. Ask that YOU what you should do to have this great career in your current time line.

Some unknown person said "Avoid those who are unable to envision a reality greater than the one they know." Why? Because those people are deeply locked in fear. And as Shakespeare said, "Of all base passions, fear is the most accursed." Are you locked in fear? If so, fear of what? If you have an answer give it over to Source. Let it go. There's so much more going on in the universe than meets the conscious eye. When you communicate at the quantum level with the wave fronts (energy and information) that create all of reality you are pulling on greater resources then your own and you receive back miracles.

Think ONE Big Person
If on the quantum level we are all One, we could visualize the Austin Show BIZ community/collective as the huge figure of a man or woman and we could picture it filled with say 10,000 lights all sparkling and glowing and say, " Source! We have created a new morphic field for us in which we are all working together. We are happy, creative, prosperous, devotees of the Dramatic Muse serving the greater good of All. With joy-filled intent make it so!"

WENDLA: One of the boys’ childhood friends. Woefully ignorant of her own sexuality, she falls for Melchior and, after consummating her relationship with him, gets pregnant. She dies after her mother forces her to have an abortion.  
MARTHA: One of Wendla’s friends whose father sexually abuses her. Martha’s mother knowingly allows the abuse to happen.  
THEA: Another of Wendla’s friends who is willing to let the adults suppress her sexual desires.  
ANNA: Another of Wendla’s friends who is horrified by Martha’s abuse and wants to tell other adults about it. She hopes that her future children will be healthy and free.  ILSE: Another of Wendla’s childhood friends who left her sexually abusive home to become a wandering Bohemian. She represents Moritz’s last hope.  
MELCHIOR: A handsome, radical, and headstrong student who is much more educated than his peers because he reads books. After getting Wendla pregnant, he is sent to reform school and keeps his will to live, despite the tragic deaths of Wendla and Moritz.  
MORITZ: Melchior’s nervous, insecure friend who is terrified by erotic dreams. He struggles in school under intense pressure from his teachers and father, and after failing his midterm exams, kills himself.  
HANDSCHEN: One of Melchior’s classmates who is funny and arrogantly charming. He seduces Ernst effortlessly.  
ERNST: One of Melchior’s naïve classmates who falls in love with Handschen and, despite being afraid, allows Handschen to seduce him.  
GEORG: One of Melchior’s classmates who longs for his sexy, mature piano teacher.  
OTTO: One of Melchior’s classmates who, to the amusement of Melchior and Moritz, had an erotic dream of his mother.

actually be 16 to 24 years old. Will only cast athletes who are NOT
pursuing college athletic careers or collegiate scholarships as we
cannot violate NCAA rules.

Females & Males who are or have been actual cheerleaders (may be

SCAN DOWN TO SEE CLASSES

Dear Acting Buddy,
Right about now I could use a good commercial job helping to sell
stuff people don't need. Cancel that. (I'm trying to be more vigilant
about the thoughts I cast into the Quantum Field.) Right now I could
use a good commercial job helping to sell stuff people DO NEED. I'm
guessing you would like an acting job, too. It seems like the acting
scene has slowed a bit. There's so much going on in the world and with
the news media broadcasting around-the-clock disaster, people get
overwhelmed and contract into fear. We all need to breathe and allow
the good to flow in. TXMP could give a workshop titled "Learning to
Receive". If there's not enough work, how are we in the biz creating
that I wonder? How can storytellers catalyze positive changes that
will lead to a more loving and prosperous world?
Things are changing fast. Just as I'm getting ready to send out my
first tweet, I hear from one of my students that teenagers and college
kids find twitter boring. "It's for old people in their 30s." That's
what he said.
A new trend in Austin is slacker acting classes. A slacker class is
where you get what we used to call in the waitress business, "the
cocktail rub." That's when we would humor the drunk for a tip and say
stuff like, "You're so great." In slacker class you turn up mainly to
socialize, don't have a homework assignment, so don't have to memorize
lines or meet with a partner outside of class and then everyone heads
to a bar and parties. You get to think you did something positive
towards your career and possibly meet a new love interest and you get
to bitch a lot about your non-existent acting career and how good you
are. I've decided to offer one of these classes, too. I've actually
always offered it. It's my Slacker Cold Read Class. Absolutely no
homework. See it in the list below. I'm not judging. I totally totally
totally get it. I majored in Theatre at UT because I thought it might
be the "easiest" major. What nobody told me was Drama majors are
rehearsing and building sets
after they go to class all day, and then, when rehearsals are over at
10:00 p.m., they study. On the weekends they work in bars and give out
the old cocktail rub. If you take Slacker Cold Reading, I promise to
tell you you rock my world, if you do.
Some noticable trends in the business
Networks like CBS report much stronger earnings. Cable channels like
VH1 that rely heavily on reality TV and reruns of other's scripted
shows are now producing their own series. We're slowly working our way
back to the 80s when actors had steady movie-of-the-week work.
Hello. Advertisers are now viewing scripted shows as safer investments
than reality programs! In a New York Times article by Brian Stelter, a
vice president of an advertising network said, "Do you really want to
rely on Snooki to do justice to your brand?"
Here's an excerpt from Brian's article:
"Channel owners like Viacom have forecast big gains this year because
ratings continue to drift toward cable and away from broadcast, and
the advertising marketplace is rebounding. Cable ad time, which is
generally less expensive than broadcast ad time, is expected to grow
faster than broadcast.

*FILM ACTING - on TUESDAYS -- ongoing*
The goal of this class is how to work with the camera and understand
it's special needs by taking a scene from cold read through shooting a
honest, cuttable performance. The class also features cold reading
skills, do's and don'ts of set etiquette, and critiquing sessions.
Scenes are shot on digital video. Actors have fun doing a variety of
action-adventure, drama, sitcom and romance scenes. Actors memorize
and rehearse with partners outside of class.

*EXPLORER CLASS - on MONDAYS - MAY 30TH*
This ongoing basics class provides a foundation for developing a natural,
believable style of acting for film. Believing every person is unique,
Mona encourages actors to be true to their own "style" by assigning
roles based on an individual's natural qualities and skill level.
Participants work on four to five different scenes and monologues from plays
and screenplays. In addition to working with text, Mona uses special exercises
to help actors relax and make their characters come alive. Students become
more confident as they tackle and master more complex characters through
scene work. Ages 18 and up. Students rehearse with partners outside of
class and memorize lines.

SLACKER COLD READ - THURSDAYS June 2, 9, and 23rd
To qualify for this class you must either be extremely busy so you
don't have time for homework to learn lines and meet with a partner
and don't want to get rusty, OR, be very lazy and the kind of person
who waits to do their work until the last minute. In other words, a
work-a-phobe.
Auditioning is different from acting. It requires special skills and
the ability to compete under stress in compressed time. Students
simulate audition scenarios by role-playing casting directors, agents,
directors, readers, and auditioning actors. Each session actors are
given new scripts to cold read. While sharpening skills, actors learn
how to compete with vitality, create a personal win at every audition,
stand out at auditions, sell themselves, and win callbacks and
bookings while still managing to be lazy. Absolutely no homework!

According to Moviemakerdigital. com Austin takes the number 4 spot for the 2011 Top 10 Best Movie Cities. “Texas’ unofficial film capital has been a thriving, moviemaker-friendly community for years, and home to the country’s most exciting auteurs.”

Lately I've gotten a number of calls from actors relocating here from California.

The number of people leaving California for another state outstripped the number moving in from another state over the last several years.

A Wall Street Journal editorial, proclaims that “Texas is the new California. The likes of Austin, Dallas and San Antonio have become destinations for investment and entrepreneurship.”

It's only a matter of time before some of the studios move here. There's amazing creative energy here.

The Austin real estate market has been enjoying a slightly better market and 2012 is predicted to have a major upswing as growth continues in Austin.

According to Angelos Angelou, local Austin economist, the Austin economy is expected to gain more jobs in 2011 and 2012 and stabilize back to pre-recession growth trends. In 2011, the Austin economy is expected to pick up 18,800 more jobs at a 2.5% job growth rate. And in 2012, Austin's job growth rate is predicted to be in the 3% range with predictions of 25,100 more jobs!

(CBS) The Brookings Institution just looked at how well cities had emerged from the recession. The rankings are based largely on job creating and housing.

Five of the top 10 are in Texas, with the state capital Austin leading the list. CBS News senior business correspondent Anthony Mason reports.

According to a recent survey, Austin weathered the recession better than any other place in the country, and now leads the nation in job growth.

Projects like Samsung's $3 billion expansion of its Austin plant have added hundreds of jobs. Austin's unemployment rate (7.1 percent) is more than two full points below the rest of the country.

Dave Porter's job at the Chamber of Commerce is to entice companies from more expensive states like California. "We are very aggressively recruiting," he said. California has a "bulls eye right on it."
